October Walk in Unity

An October 12, 2022, walk along the Hills to Sea trail was full of color. Here are a few shots from the section of trail between MOFGA and Quaker Hill Road in Unity.

Witch hazel (Hamamelis virginiana) is one of the few shrubs to bloom in fall in Maine. The plant is the source of medicinal witch hazel preparations.

Who might use this hidey-hole in an old sugar maple?

The fall foliage has been spectacular. These sugar maples didn’t disappoint.

Christmas ferns, with their evergreen foliage, stand out on the forest floor now.

This ribbon snake seemed to be soaking up the warmth of a sunny October day.
